The Kenya Agribusiness and Agroindustry Alliance (KAAA) MSMEs took part in the Second High-level Meeting (HLM2) of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC), which set priorities for improving development cooperation in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Themed ‘Towards Inclusive and Accelerated Implementation of the 2030 Agenda,’ the HLM2 meeting provided a platform for Heads of State and Government, ministers, heads of international organizations, business and civil society to showcase successes, as well as identify and scale up innovative approaches to sustainable development. Parliamentarians and representatives of local and regional governments were also in attendance.
Alongside the MSMEs, a KAAA member, the African Natural Products (ANP) Limited had a chance to showcase a fruit and vegetable solar drier which is their recent innovation. The drier has the potential of creating jobs for the youth and women as well as improving food security and malnutrition.
The GPEDC meeting included two days of preparatory sessions and two days of high-level discussions. GPEDC is a global forum bringing together a broad range of development actors to strengthen the quality, impact and effectiveness of development cooperation.
The Partnership is based on the principles of country ownership, achieving results, inclusive partnerships, and transparency and accountability. The HLM2 was organized by the Government of Kenya with support from the Global Partnership’s three co-chairs (Malawi, Mexico and the Netherlands), Steering Committee members and the Joint Support Team provided by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
