Continent leaders in Agriculture meet in AU to discuss the Aflotoxin Control.

The Africa farmers continue loosing more than 40% of their produce through post harvest management. Furthermore,the Aflotoxin control remains a big challenge to the African farmers.The Aflotoxin control is a huge challenge! Hundred of people are dying from the effect of aflotoxins

It is on this note that the Africa Union Commission, AUC, Meridian Institute, Melinda Gates foundation, Pan African Farmers Federation ,PAFFO, Pan African Agribusiness and Agroindustry Consortium,PanAAC, The African Agricultural Technology Foundation, AATF, International Institute of Tropical Science in Agriculture, IITA, AMREF and Consumer Organization have joined hands to address this serious issue,through establishing PACA-Pan African Control programme on Aflotoxin.

The leaders of these institutions are steering the operations of this programme .

PanAAC’s role is to represents the private sector/traders and especially the sme’s who require alot of sensitization in handling the produce to avoid the aflotoxins effect

Recently,the wider stakeholders of the platform met in AU to discuss the extent of aflotoxin effect in the continent.

The challenges faced and different innovations/technologies that can be embraced to control the Aflotoxin in the continent were to of the agenda.

These discussions were led by the commissioner of Agriculture and rural Economy,madame Rhoda Tumusiime and other African leaders .

After the three days meeting, a dinner was hosted and Madame Rhoda Tumusiime thanked the participants. She declared Aflotoxin effect as a continental disaster.
