A seven year old making money from Agribusiness

Africa’s Youngest Beekeeper Caleb Mumo is a young man with a passion in Bee farming. Caleb has travelled vastly in many Apiaries or beekeeping sites demonstrating on how to handle the African Bee during his vacations. Caleb Mumo usually does the inspections and honey harvesting quite accurately, a trick he has learned from his father who is a veteran beekeeper and also supported by The Hive Group of companies.

CalebCaleb Mumo is 7 years old and easily prepares his smoker, wears his bee suit and swings to action into opening the friendly CAB hive. He opens the CAB Hive cover and immediately smokes the bees on the honey store part of the hive called super box and immediately the African bees respect his smoke and quickly sink down into the brood box.

He then courageously and with overwhelming confidence takes his hive tool and begins to pick up the frames from the super box completely full of honey as he transfers them into an empty super box. He slowly wipes the few remaining bees on the frames before he places them into the empty super box.

It takes Caleb less than 5 minutes to complete harvesting honey from a CAB hive! A very friendly hive indeed which its perfect design makes the African bees less aggressive and quite easy to handle giving 10-12 Kgs of honey per each harvest and can harvest a minimum of 6 times in a year.

He then takes his frames and places them on the uncapping tray and uncaps his frames full of honey quickly placing them inside the honey extractor. He spins the extractor holding 6 frames and the honey quickly comes out of the wax cells into the extractor.

Caleb immediately opens the extractor’s honey gate and the honey flows out into a double sieve which is held on a stainless steel bucket for final storage.

Caleb confidently and safely takes visitor into the apiaries tour and keenly inspects the hives with them. He explains all the various parts of the hive and different types of the bees – little expert beekeeper!!.

His father is a well respected veteran beekeeper in African Continent and has Thousands of CAB Hives. Traditionally his father has been very close to Caleb especially during his holidays when Caleb joins his father while doing his routine inspections of his vast apiaries.
