Across the globe, especially in African countries the harsh realities of no fruit be reaped is an alarming issue today, more especially among the small medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Agricultural sector in Kenya.

The agriculture sector in Kenya boosts of being the third largest exporter of tea, it earned $1.4bn I tea exports alone in 2013 according to African business magazine, With over 50 various teas produced by large and small scale farmers. It is interesting to know that only 9% of Kenya’s land is arable. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) records that the 9% of arable land accounts for 5.3m hectares.

A success story in the agribusiness some would say, but the harsh truth is, agribusiness in Kenya through means of support can flourish even more.

Over the past recent years, SMEs in the agriculture sector have not exploited their full potential in the agribusiness industry due to lack of agribusiness know how, market and new innovations just to name a few. Unfavorable conditions have caused a great decline in the growth and advancement in agroindustry.

Kenya Agribusiness and Agroindustry Alliance is a body formed to support the facilitation of greater coordination between different value chain actors and engagement with the government to ensure intensification of intra-industry linkages and cooperation for effective growth of agriculture and agribusiness in Kenya.
